St.
Michael’s School has a seven-member Board
of Directors, representative of the school’s
educational community. The Board is structured
so that through its members there will be adequate
representation of: the American community, the
financial and academic sectors, as well as representation
from the school’s Parents’ Association.
The Board consists of a President, Vice-President,
Secretary (one of the representatives from the
Parents’ Association), and four Vocals.
The experience that the members bring to the
Board enriches the decision making process at
the school and in no way conflicts with each
member’s responsibility as a Board member.
The Board of Directors operates
in accordance with its written statutes and
in full support of the school’s administrative
and leadership planning teams, as designated
by the Administrative Head. Despite the fact
that some of the Board members are also parents
from the school, the members respect the appropriate
lines of communication as designated by the
Administrative Head regarding dissemination
of decisions taken during Board meetings.,
All are voting members who may be re-elected
to serve continual terms. The fact that members
from the Parents’ Association form part
of the Board facilitates communication between
the two entities and makes it viable for parents
to evaluate the decisions and actions being
taken by the school’s Board of Directors.
During the initial Board meeting
and with the Administrative Head’s assistance,
new members are given adequate orientation
to help prepare them for their upcoming responsibilities
including review of Board statutes, procedures,
responsibilities expected of each member and
SACS standards for American-International
schools in Latin America.
The Board meets three
times during the school year. In addition,
the Board is called into session for extraordinary
meetings when exceptional situations arise.
The Board acts as the intermediary body of
appeals among different parties involved in
the institution to promote open discussions
and communication among all groups. The Administrative
Head is present as a non-voting member during
these planning and decision making meetings.
